TSC vs Freiburg Prediction & Tips
TSC Backa Topola have already proven that they deserve their place in Group A in this season’s UEFA Europa League (UEL), despite this being their first appearance in any group stage of a European competition. TSC surprised in their match against UEFA Europa Conference League champions West Ham, taking the lead in their first group stage match to eventually lose 3-1, before coming back from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 against Olympiacos.
While it is possible to take the positives, those matches contributed to what has been a poor run for Zarko Lazetic’s side, who have failed to win in their last six official matches (E3, P3), making it difficult to predict how they will do to avoid finishing bottom of the group. Their next fixture will see Freiburg pay a visit to the TSC Arena, marking the first time they have faced a club from Germany.
Freiburg were considered one of the main contenders to top Group A after finishing last season’s UEL group stage unbeaten (G4, E2), and kept the momentum going with a 3-2 win over Olympiacos to start this campaign. Christian Streich’s side failed to overcome what is likely to be the main contender for the Group A throne in their second match, losing 2-1 to West Ham.
They returned to winning ways at the weekend by beating Bochum 2-1 in the Bundesliga despite conceding the opening goal. However, this match might not be so straightforward if they fall behind on the scoreboard as, of Freiburg’s 23 matches in European competition which did not end 0-0, the team that scored first only ended up losing in one of them, adding further importance to the first goal in this fixture.
Players to watch: TSC’s Milos Pantovic usually brings good luck with his goals as he has never lost any of the 15 games in which he has seen opposition goal at club level (G11, E4), most recently rescuing a point in UEL against Olympiacos. The same cannot be said of Freiburg’s Roland Sallai, whose goal against West Ham was in vain, but he will pose a danger in this match as his previous six goals have all come in away games.
Key stat: Only two of Freiburg’s last ten matches have had a 0-0 scoreline in the first half.
