Burnley vs Wolves Prediction & Tips
While they remain on the hunt for a manager, Burnley’s interim manager Mike Jackson is trying to get something started as his side moved to within a point of Everton in the hunt for that 17th position with a 2-0 win over Southampton in midweek. Burnley simply cannot stop until they get enough points, and with Everton playing later in the day, the Clarets could provisionally move out of the relegation zone if they avoid defeat.
That win against Southampton saw them record back-to-back home wins in the Premier League (PL) for the first time this season while Burnley will now look to record their longest run of consecutive top-flight victories at Turf Moor since a run of five in 2016/17. That goal doesn’t seem out of reach as they welcome the visit of Wolves knowing they haven’t lost in a home meeting between them in the PL over the last three campaigns (G2, E1).
Wolves have not played a game in over two weeks due to Manchester City’s involvement in the FA Cup last weekend, but now return to action looking for a win to keep them in contention for a ticket to European competition. However, three wins and five defeats during their last eight league games have dented their hopes of reaching the continental stage, and it could take a sixth-place finish – which would be the club’s best position in the PL – for Wolves to qualify for European competition next season.
Unusually, Wolves have been more convincing away from home in the PL than at home of late, with five of their last eight away league appearances ending in victory, four with a clean sheet (G5, P3). Although the three defeats on that record came during their last four games away from home, and with only one goal scored during the last 350 minutes of play on opposition soil, the return for this fixture of Raul Jimenez from suspension will be a blessing.
Players to watch: Nathan Collins scored his first two goals for Burnley during their last two home games, each contributing to crucial victories, while Raul Jimenez could make the difference for Wolves, with five of his six goals this league season proving decisive in a win.
Weekend stat: Wolves have not conceded a first-half goal in any of their last 15 away league games.
