Levante – Espanyol (Pick, Prediction, Preview) Preview

Levante vs Espanyol Prediction & Tips

Levante’s 3-1 defeat away to Athletic Club on Monday snapped a three-match unbeaten run (G2, E1) in LaLiga Santander (LL). Alessio Lisci’s side remain in last place, seven points adrift of the safety zone ahead of matchday 28. The Granotas, with just three wins in 27 games, face their 14th home game of the season with no margin for error when they take on an Espanyol side who are unbeaten in their last four official visits to the Ciutat de València (G2, E2).
Levante also lost to Espanyol in the first leg of the current campaign (ESP 4-3 LEV), a match that contributed to their record of 54 goals conceded, the highest in LL 2021-22. Despite a 3-0 win over Elche in their last home game, the Valencian side’s home record remains abysmal: just two wins in 13 LL home games this season (G2, E6, P5), and four of their five defeats have been by two goals or more.
Espanyol, meanwhile, go into the clash relieved to have ended a seven-game winless run (E3, P4) with a 2-0 defeat of Getafe at the RCDE Stadium. The win lifted the Barcelona side to twelfth place, eight points clear of the relegation zone.
That said, Espanyol visit the Turia capital with a poor away record of just one win so far in the league (G1, E4, P8). Including results in their previous Primera Division campaign (2019-20), they have just one win in their last 22 top-flight outings, having failed to score in ten of them.
Players to watch: In-form Jorge de Frutos has been directly involved in five goals in his last five LL games for Levante (G2, A3). Thirteen goals in the current campaign for Espanyol – Raúl de Tomás scored one of them against Levante – and seven of those have come between the 39th and 55th minutes.
Key stat: Levante and Espanyol are two of the teams that have received the most red cards (six each) in LL 2021-22.
