Lazio vs Napoli Prediction & Tips
After a disappointing end to their Europa League campaign at the hands of Porto, Lazio will have to quickly regroup to get their Serie A (SA) campaign back on track. Locked in a tight battle just outside the top five, the ‘Biancocelesti’ are in the midst of their longest league unbeaten streak (G3, D2) since February 2021, but that will count for nothing if Lazio can’t trace their recent ten-game form against Napoli in SA (G2, L8), including a convincing 4-0 loss earlier this campaign.
However, both wins have come in the last two seasons at home, a venue that has proven to be a mini-fortress in recent months as Lazio have lost just one of their previous 25 home games in the SA ( G19, E5). Scoring first has certainly helped at home this season (W5, D1), although Lazio also have one of the best records in the competition conceding first (W3, D4, L6), so shouldn’t be ruled out if they receive the first goal
Napoli were also knocked out of European competition in midweek by a rampaging Barcelona, but in this clash they will have a chance to top the league table if both Milan clubs drop points. Back-to-back 1-1 draws in the league have slowed their progress of late, and another draw here would see them draw three games in a row in the SA for the first time since December 2014.
Having dropped points in four of their last seven SA away games (G3, D3, L1) and considering the “Partenopei” side dropped points after scoring first in three of those games, the visitors could get nervous as they look to avoid losing three away games against Lazio for the first time since August 1997.
Players to watch: Ciro Immobile scored Lazio’s first goal in six of their last seven games against Napoli in the SA and also scored the team’s first goal in their most recent Europa League clash. On the away side, Dries Mertens has scored three goals in the last two matches he has played against Lazio in the SA, and both goals served to extend Napoli’s advantage in wins where the team did not concede goals either.
Featured fact: There hasn’t been an SA match between these two sides that has ended goalless since November 2011, with an average of 3.70 goals per game since then.
