2023/24 Premier League review after the first international break

The 2023/24 Premier League season is already well underway and there have not been too many surprises in regard to how the table looks at this early juncture.

Manchester City already sit at the top of the perch after five games played, with the Cityzens yet to have dropped points. Unsurprisingly, their early start to the campaign and their continued dominance of the league under Pep Guardiola makes them a team that are regularly among the TPP soccer predictions that are made on a consistent basis.

Elsewhere, Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool, and Arsenal fill out the top four spots with 13 points each, having each experienced a draw alongside four wins. Brighton and Hove Albion under Roberto De Zerbi continue to impress and their 3-1 win against Manchester United continued to show how well they are doing under the Italian.

Clubs like Newcastle United (12th – six points), Manchester United (13th – six points) and Chelsea (14th – five points) have not had the starts to the season that they would each have liked, leaving them with some work already if they want to finish in the top four at the end of this season. Performances would suggest there is a lot of work to do, and it might be unlikely to happen unless they find form immediately and put together a solid run of results.

Things look even bleaker for some of the clubs at the bottom of the Premier League table, with some still struggling to compete and finding life in the division a little tougher than others.

Luton Town still sit bottom of the league and have struggled as they are yet to pick up a point in their first four games, while Burnley picked up their first point against Nottingham Forest and moved off the bottom under Vincent Kompany.

Everton are already in another precarious situation at this early stage, with just one point from their first five games, although they may be boosted by the news that they are set to be taken over. If the deal is completed before January, perhaps Sean Dyche will have funds to make the transfers he needs and bring in the players that can help them finish – hopefully – without another relegation battle on the cards.

Lots of football to be played between now and the next international break

With the next international break not scheduled to take place until the second week of October, there is a lot of football to be played between now and then.

Although it is still rather early in the campaign, it could be argued that this could be the time then the league ladder starts to take some kind of formation and may look towards the end of the season.

Clubs in Europe will begin to play multiple games in a week, while the relentless schedule does not give up as domestic competitions will also start to involve some of the Premier League sides. Some were already involved in the second round of the Carabao Cup, but the European qualifiers will now enter in the Third Round.

Injuries can happen which can alter the table, with some clubs perhaps highlighting the impact that they have already felt at this stage.

Nonetheless, for fans of the Premier League and those who like to make predictions, quality football should be witnessed between now and the start of the next international break.
