West Brom vs Leicester Prediction & Tips

West Bromwich Albion are back in the Premier league after two seasons in the Championship and to welcome them, is a home match against Leicester City this Sunday. Both sides had poor endings to the 2019/20 season and will be gunning for better times here. West Bromwich Albion were blistering at some point in the season but the good form disappeared towards the end though they managed to limp to the finish line, securing second place in the Championship. They failed to win their last four matches of the season and only secured the automatic slot with three points ahead of Brentford and eventual playoffs winner, Fulham. West Brom won just three of their last 12 matches last season and having had a great run earlier in the season, their performance in the latter stages revealed a group that could easily crumble under pressure. The team was particularly off-color at home, with four wins in 14 home games towards the close of the campaign and will hope to put that behind them when they meet one of the top teams in the Premier League. In their only preseason friendly match, West Brom did manage a clean sheet but could not hit the net as they drew 0-0 with Brighton. The club has also not been heavily involved in the transfer market, only confirming permanent deals for on loan duo of Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana.

On the other hand, Leicester City were strong starters last season, losing just two of their opening 17 matches and winning 13 in the process. But just like West Brom, they capitulated at the latter stages of the season, winning just three of their final 14 games. The bad run saw them miss out on a top four finish, which was a massive blow on the final day of the season and this is among issues they will be looking to address this season. Leicester City had the fifth best defensive form in the league last term and were the fourth best scoring side. They still have last season’s top scorer Jamie Vardy in their ranks and this should pass as a big boost, facing a newly promoted side. In 2019/20, Leicester collected 13 points from a possible 18 from the newly promoted sides and had a great start to the campaign. It is their away from that remains a big concern; Leicester didn’t win any of their last eight away matches at the close of last season. The only away win they managed in the last 10 was an FA Cup game against Brentford and they also had just two clean sheets in their last 10 away matches. They however managed to score in seven of the 10 away matches. The big loss for the Foxes in the summer was Ben Chilwell who left for Chelsea but the team has Timothy Castagne joining from Atalanta in the Serie A as well as most of their top players from last season who should be inspired by last season’s lows to do better.

Leicester have one win in 10 away matches.

West Bromwich Albion won three of their last 12 matches last season.

Leicester collected 13 points from newly promoted sides last season.

West Bromwich Albion ended last season with four wins in 14 home games.

West Bromwich Albion limped through the final stages of last season and have not strengthened a lot going to the Premier League. They were particularly off color at home towards the end of the season, and though Leicester were also not the best on the road, they will carry lots of experience heading to The Hawthorns. Last season Leicester dominated newly promoted sides and with West Bromwich Albion still expected to struggle, we will go with a 2-0 win for the away team.
