Kazakhstan vs Scotland Prediction & Tips

Facing for the first time in history, Kazakhstan (# 117 in the FIFA ranking) hosts Scotland (# 40) in the first round of the Eurocup 2020 standings at the Astana Arena. Although unbeaten in their last two official matches at this venue, the ‘Hawks’ have won only four European qualifiers in general (G4, E7, P23).

Coach Michal Bilek (KAZ) will be leading the Eastern European team for the second time and will look to improve the team’s performance at home in official competitions since the surprise 2-2 draw with Poland in the World Cup qualification in 2016 (G1, E3, P3, since then). However, after Kazakhstan finished last in their 2018 Russian qualifying group with only three points in ten games, the Scottish contingent has reason to be optimistic despite playing in visiting status.

Scotland is looking to qualify for its third final phase of a Eurocup after failing to achieve it 11 times since 1968 (qualifiers for the Euro: G52, E26, P33). After securing his place in the UEFA Nations League (UNL) play-offs next year, Alex McLeish (in all matches: G4, P6) will hope to repeat the level shown in the 4-0 win over Albania in his last meeting away from home.

After not conceding goals in six of their last ten official matches (G7, E2, P1), the Scottish team has a good performance base to try to get their first appearance in an official tournament since 1998!

Players to watch: Baurzhan Turysbek (KAZ) has scored in his last two matches at the local level and has scored three goals in 11 matches for his country.
For his part, James Forrest scored five goals for Scotland in the UNL and scored 10 goals in the SPL for Celtic.

Statistics to consider: Five of Kazakhstan last ten official matches at home have ended with more than 2.5 goals – all had goals in both the first and second half.
Scotland’s last eight official away games have ended with more than 2.5 goals and all have produced goals in both halves.

Kazakhstan have scored first in just two of their last ten home games.
