West Ham vs Gent Prediction & Tips

Conference League return match in London: West Ham takes on Gent. For the English, finalists of the last Conference League, this competition represents the lifeline of an otherwise disappointing season and any result other than victory would also represent a disappointment given the level of the contenders. Gent, fourth in the league, on the other hand, have more modest pretensions but start with the knowledge that they will play for it given the good performance in the first leg and the 1-1 draw.

West Ham is in good form and partially redeeming a disappointing year given the level of the squad. In the Premier they drew with Arsenal and are +4 from third-last place; they are finding good offensive continuity. Gent has slowed the pace in the league but remains a level team that has made a good run in the Conference. It has nothing to lose and often gets good results on the road: so we do not expect it to be perched defensively in search of the 0-0.

West Ham has a full squad with only Scamacca injured (he is back from knee surgery). In offensive terms however his contribution this year has been peripheral. Almost everyone is available for Gent. Of note is the resounding contribution of Nigerian Gift Orban who has scored 14 goals in as many matches with the Belgians including five in the Conference League: his presence will be Gent’s main offensive weapon.
