Tottenham – Brighton (Pick, Prediction, Preview) Preview

Tottenham vs Brighton Prediction & Tips

Tottenham were held to a late draw by Everton (E 2-2) in their last Premier League game, denying them the chance to close to within three points of Manchester City and Arsenal. However, on a slightly more positive note, it was the seventh of their eight most recent league games in which they picked up points (G5, E2, P1), with the only defeat coming at the hands of upcoming rivals Brighton.

Four successive home league wins in a row are enough on their own to inspire the Spurs side to avenge the 4-2 loss to Brighton at the end of last December, despite failing to keep a clean sheet in any of those four victories. Most importantly for Ange Postecoglou and his players, a fifth consecutive home win would return them to the Premier League’s top four, even if potentially just for a day.

Brighton’s players were asked to bounce back from their embarrassing 4-0 defeat to Luton Town and they did so in style, scoring four goals at home to Crystal Palace (G 4-1) to keep their dreams of another season in European soccer alive. But it was not the ideal day for manager Roberto De Zerbi, who had recently been linked with a possible move to Liverpool or Real Madrid, as he picked up another yellow card and will have to serve a suspension in this clash.

He will not be on the pitch to inspire his players to end their away drought in the Premier League, spanning five games (E2, P3) over two months, which has ultimately prevented them from joining the likes of Tottenham in the top six. Brighton have also struggled to defy the odds this league season, losing four of their five away clashes (G1) when starting as the “underdogs” on the day, a label they also carry heading into this clash.

Players to watch: Richarlison scored in each of Tottenham’s four consecutive home wins, though he opened the account just once in that span. Brighton’s Joao Pedro scored twice and provided an assist in the reverse fixture, and five of his six competitive goals since then have come away from home.
Key stat: The last 12 meetings between the sides in all competitions have been won by one side (eight wins for Tottenham, four for Brighton).
