Sampdoria vs Cremonese Prediction & Tips

A 3-0 loss to Roma was not an ideal return to Serie A (SA) for Sampdoria after the international break, as the gap to get out of the relegation zone increased to ten points with last weekend’s result. Dejan Stanković’s men have one of their last chances to stay in the fight for permanence in this clash, with the visit of Cremonese, who are at the bottom of the table and whom they beat 1-0 in the previous match of this campaign, representing one of their three wins in the SA this season.
However, Sampdoria have lost each of their last three home matches in the Italian top flight against newly promoted opponents, and have failed to score in the last two. The “Blucerchiati” won their last league game here (Verona 3-1), but it was hardly their first home win this SA season (E4, P9). In fact, no team in Europe’s top five leagues has fewer home wins.
Cremonese are two points behind their hosts and with just one win and 13 points from the first 28 rounds (E10, P17), they look doomed to an immediate return to Serie B. Davide Ballardini’s side also suffered a 2-0 defeat in their Coppa Italia semi-final first leg in midweek against Fiorentina, so even their morale-boosting cup run looks set to come to an end.
Still in search of their first away win in the league this season (E7, P7), there is hope that Cremonese can pull it off in this challenge, having scored five goals in their last three away games. All of those goals came after halftime, but this side has been vulnerable in the final minutes, having conceded a league-high 12 goals to opposing substitutes, including two in a 3-1 loss to Atalanta in their last SA encounter.
Players to watch: Alessandro Zanoli scored in Sampdoria’s last home game and became the second-youngest Italian defender with at least one goal and one assist this Serie A season. For Cremonese, Cyriel Dessers has scored their last three away goals, two of which came after halftime.
Key stat: Sampdoria has lost a league-high 13 games after being down on the scoreboard at halftime.
