Christian Gourcuff’s team crosses a very good period. Thanks to two wins (1-0 vs. Guingamp and Nantes 2-1 on his land) and shed (1-1 vs. Bordeaux) in the last three games of the championship group in Eastern Brittany ranks sixth in Ligue 1 , one point behind sites that allow access to a European cup.
Rennes was highlighted by developments this season at home, accounting for four successes and a draw (9-3 agg). Problems occurred in away games, but in the previous stage and that was improved balance sheet, with the result coming as a bonus for Nantes and his Gourcuff.
FC Lorient
Lorient’s situation is the opposite face opponents on Wednesday. With just two wins, one draw and no less than eight defeats group in northwestern France occupy the last position in the ranking of Ligue 1. Somewhat predictably, coach Sylvain Ripoll paid for these results, being sacked after two days at the helm of the team.
Naturally, the figures are in turn disastrous, Lorient having the second worst attack in the league (only 6 successful in 10 rounds) and the third most permissive defense (16 goals conceded).
It remains to be seen who will be the new coach of the band but, as shown by the lot, is hard to believe that you can make miracles overnight.
Direct meetings
Recent duels balance tilts in favor of Rennes is unbeaten for five games in front of Lorient (two wins and three draws). Both parties in the previous season ended in a draw 2-2 on “Roazhon Park” and 1-1 on “Stade du Moustoir.”
