Real Madrid vs Girona Prediction & Tips

The growing anticipation of Kylian Mbappé’s move to Real Madrid next summer made headlines this week, but the focus is now on the current squad as they look to increase their two-point lead over Girona at the top of LaLiga EA Sports (LL). After conceding a 93rd-minute goal and drawing 1-1 with Atletico Madrid, Los Blancos are looking to take a very important step towards the league title in the big matchday 24 clash.
Aurélien Tchouaméni is back from suspension, but with Nacho Fernández almost ruled out and Antonio Rüdiger sidelined, the back line is an injury headache for Carlo Ancelotti. With his defense very weakened, the Italian coach will have to find an urgent solution to beat an opponent that is making history and already seems the only one capable of snatching the championship from his team.

Girona have not suffered a league defeat since their 3-0 loss to Madrid (30 September – G11, E4 since then), with whom they are engaged in a thrilling battle for the throne of Spanish football this season and against whom they have won as often as they have lost in LL (G3, E1, P3), an admirable record for a club with a short history in the top flight. It remains to be seen whether the 0-0 draw with Real Sociedad at Montilivi last time out was just a blip for Míchel Sánchez, who was sent off for protesting a disallowed goal to Yangel Herrera and will not be able to lead his team from the bench at the Bernabéu.
The rojiblancos have already beaten Barcelona (away) and Atlético de Madrid in the current championship, but winning at the Bernabéu would be the biggest blow on the table, and not only because it would lift them to the lead. Girona have won on one of their four previous visits to the Coliseo Blanco (G1, E1, P2), although in their two defeats they conceded an average of five goals per game.

Players to watch: Ancelotti could again rely on Brahim Diaz if Vinicius Junior is unavailable, especially after opening the scoring against Atletico Madrid with his fifth goal at the Bernabeu out of his seven this season. Having also found the back of the net against Atleti, three of the last four goals scored by Sávio against Girona were the third of the match.
