Liverpool – Burnley (Pick, Prediction, Preview) Preview

Liverpool vs Burnley Prediction & Tips

The Premier League title race was left wide open on the final day when long-time league leaders Liverpool produced their worst performance of the season in a 3-1 loss to fellow contenders Arsenal, while Manchester City made the most of that slip with a 3-1 win over Brentford a day later. City can put even more pressure on Jürgen Klopp’s side, as a win over Everton, the “Reds'” eternal rivals on Merseyside, prior to this clash, will allow them to claim top spot ahead of Burnley’s visit to Anfield.
Fortunately for the “Reds”, a match against a relegation candidate provides the perfect opportunity to get back on their title-fighting horse, having won four of their last six meetings with teams in the bottom three (E2). This particular clash has also proved fruitful, with Liverpool winning nine of their last 12 meetings between them (E2, P1), while also keeping clean sheets in each of the last four (G4).

But it was five head-to-head meetings ago that produced one of the biggest shocks of recent seasons, when Burnley came to Anfield in January 2021 and left with a 1-0 win to end Liverpool’s 68-game unbeaten run at home in the league at the time. A repeat of that result could be a boost that Vincent Kompany’s side need to make a big breakaway, with their gap to safety at seven points before the start of this fixture.
This is largely because the “Clarets” managed just two points from their last six games, but the most recent of that poor run should provide a boost after coming from two goals down to rescue a draw against Fulham. However, their fighting spirit has been lacking away from home of late, having lost eight of their previous ten away games in all competitions (G1, E1).
Players to watch: “The Kop” will be rooting for one of his own, Curtis Jones, whose five goals this season have come in home wins (G4). Conversely, Burnley’s hopes may rest with recent signing David Datro Fofana, who has made an instant impact by playing a part in their last three Premier League goals (two goals, one assist).
Key stat: Burnley have scored in all but one of their last seven away league games.
