Conference League quarterfinal second leg in Alkmaar between AZ and Anderlecht. The Dutch have to make up for the 2-0 first leg defeat: since the away goals rule does not apply, a 3-1 or 4-2 is fine, but it will be tricky since the Belgians have never conceded more than two goals this cup season, and have conceded exactly two on only two occasions in the round.
AZ won the last league game in Sittard 3-0, a sign of recovery after three defeats in four games. However, the team remains fourth in the league with little chance of finishing on the podium after a season at a good level. In the Conference, AZ won a very easy round then beat Lazio in the round of 16. For Anderlecht the match represents a golden opportunity to redeem a so far disappointing season at home in which they will probably finish tenth. The 5-2 defeat to Genk is heavy but will in our opinion cause the coach to impose an even more shrewd defensive plan in Alkmaar.
AZ is missing some important players: their absence has been heavy in recent months and their contribution will be lacking in this quarterfinal. Among others, de Wit and Karlsson will be missing. On the other hand, Reijnders and Pavlidis stand out, the former a pillar of the midfield and the latter a point of reference in attack. Full squad instead for Anderlecht, which relies as usual on a mix of youngsters and old foxes like Slimani.
