AS Roma vs Inter Prediction & Tips

The “mini-crisis” that seemed to engulf Roma now appears to be a thing of the past after last Monday’s 4-0 win over Cagliari was their third consecutive Serie A victory under new coach Daniele De Rossi. That has the “Giallorossi” one point off the top four, but their credentials are about to be put to the test against league leaders Inter Milan, and after that they will play the first leg of their UEFA Europa League play-off clash against Feyenoord in midweek.

Stability in the league could still be a priority and, fortunately, the Stadio Olimpico has been a fortress, as Roma are in the midst of an unbeaten run of 14 official home matches without defeat (G12, E2). Roma fans will no doubt be praying that streak continues as they seek their first home win over Inter since October 2016 (E3, P3), the longest wait since 1940.
Roma’s last home loss came against Inter’s city rivals AC Milan, and they now face an Inter side that is on a six-game official winning streak — they recorded the last four without conceding. That was also the case in their last two league games against Roma, and if that defensive solidity continues, then the “nerazzurri” side could record three straight wins for only the second time in their history against this top-flight opponent.

Looking to extend their four-point lead at the top of the table over Juventus, the visitors have performed well throughout the campaign, possessing the best attack (GF: 51) and defense (GC: 10) in Serie A. Inter is also the only Serie A team that has yet to lose an away league game this campaign (G9, E2), including a 2-0 win over Lazio at this same venue.
Players to watch: Lorenzo Pellegrini led Roma’s attack against Cagliari, scoring the first goal and assisting the second, and that was his third consecutive league match in which he was directly involved in the game’s second goal (G2, A1). His impact could be negated by a late goal from Marcus Thuram, as the Inter Milan striker has scored four of his last five league goals from the 60th minute onward.
Key stat: A penalty, either for or against, has been called in each of Roma’s last seven official matches.
